Four little reasons to smile...

Well ... I've had a rather stress filled week.... problems with the van and no money to sort them out... about £700 to sort it out with new parts so investigating other possibilities!!

Amongst the stress visits to the beauty that is the allotment... to keep me sane...

I grow my squashes and sweetcorn together they are a very happy pairing... with nastursams and borage to encourage the bees...

I sink a big pot and only water and feed through these... thus encouraging deep roots, discouraging slugs and mildew...

I do the same with the tomatoes and plant them with marigolds...
I've given these a little wind break too...

I cover the ground with that material cloth and sink old water bottles to feed the courgettes through...
Great to keep the weeds at bay... Borage in the middle of the four plants...

The MangeTout and beans are doing well too...

And a space prepared for the next sowing of leaves...

Over four kilos of Gooseberries picked so far ... vicious little things Gooseberries!!

Might lift some salad spuds at the weekend... Mmmm

Then today I popped into one of my local charity shops and found these four Retro beauties for the van...

So that cheered me up a bit...

I do still love my little van ( see her here) but it's a shame we will have to get acquainted with the scrap yard a bit sooner than I'd had liked... the roof vent is being fixed tomorrow... hooray!

Till next time Smiles Cass x

  3. Your plot looks so healthy and all those gooseberries, hubs says ours are not ready yet but now I'm wondering, might have a sneak down there just to check. What a pain about the cost of your van repairs but you'll get it sorted...eventually! Suzy x

  4. Hope you'll get the problems with the van sorted out!!
Your allotment looks great, and the veggies are coming along nicely. I like the idea to sink pots in the ground and water through them.
Love the retro mugs, what great finds.

  5. I hate unexpected expenses! But just think of all the money you will save with your fantastic fruit and veg! That should go some way to keeping the wee can on the road!

  7. I do like the tips the upturned pots is one I think even I can manage. I hope the Indian weather is helping smooth over the cracks. It's all do able. I feel like the things to do list grows disproportionally but in reality the positives far outweigh the negatives. You are always moving forwards.
