Felt making.....

I have always fancied having a go at making felt so when the opportunity came along through Transistion Chichester I jumped quick.

Just as well as Judy only had room for 6 of us.

So Saturday morning found me having colourful fun in Judy's lovely home in Emsworth...

The lovely Judy doing her thing...

using 100% merino wool tops layer in alternating directions

      Till desired creation...

Cover creation with a piece of netting, fill a plastic jug with boiling water and don gloves... now you can either use liquid soap or  a simple olive soap...

Pour water add soap and start to rub... lightly at first

Here using an old carrier bag to rub, keep rubbing for 10-15
mins, keep the whole thing warm, so keep adding hot water.

    Then "shock" the item

Plunge into boiling water then cold

Then it needs to be rolled, tightly as possible, using a bit of old blind and a rolling pin.

20 times in one direction turn and 20 times again

That's about it really... Shock it again and make sure all soap is out  then shape as you like and let it dry...

The thicker you make it.. the longer the time and more elbow grease needs to be put in...

Here is my before and after...

I shall make a little bag thingy from my first attempt...

My second is a roll that when it is finished I will cut into slices and make a necklace or form it into a bangle I'm not sure yet.. it needs to be worked a little more...  then I will decide...

So beautiful...

  2. Cass, your bag is going to be lovely when it's finished. It's great fun losing yourself in the world of wool tops and water, isn't it?!
